Marco Bezzecchi cements his place in Italian racing history at Mugello
Marco Bezzecchi is officially in the history books. On Sunday, the Aprilia Racing rider claimed a monumental victory at Mugello, marking the first time Aprilia has triumphed on home soil. With teammate Jorge Martin securing second place, it was a beautiful 1-2 finish for the Noale factory that will be talked about for a long time.
Bezzecchi now joins a very elite club of Italian winners at this legendary venue, standing alongside icons like Valentino Rossi, Loris Capirossi, Andrea Dovizioso, Danilo Petrucci, and Francesco Bagnaia. Even more impressive is the distinction of an Italian rider winning on an Italian machine at the Italian GP. While Bagnaia, Dovizioso, and Petrucci previously achieved this feat with Ducati, Bezzecchi has now added Aprilia to that exclusive list.
This win pushed Italy’s total MotoGP victory count to 299. It has been a wild season for Aprilia, which has already reached five MotoGP wins—four from Bezzecchi and one from Martin. Meanwhile, the Ducati Lenovo Team—who saw Bagnaia take a podium finish—sits at 99 total wins, poised to hit a century soon.
