That fantastic rollercoaster of a venue is locked in for the long haul. MotoGP has officially locked down a new agreement ensuring that the series will keep racing at the Algarve International Circuit until 2029, stretching the commitment for a further three seasons.
Since making its championship debut in 2020—bringing premier class racing back to the country for the first time since 2012—the spectacular Portimão track has firmly established itself on the calendar. Growth has been undeniable, culminating in the 2025 Portuguese Grand Prix drawing more than 166,000 fans across the weekend to set a brand new attendance record at the circuit.
Now, the stage is set for the Repsol MotoGP Grand Prix of Portugal to run between 20 and 22 November. The paddock's heavyweights are heading back to the venue, featuring championship leader Jorge Martín of Aprilia Racing, seven-time Champion Marc Marquez representing the Ducati Lenovo Team, and 2025 Portuguese GP winner Marco Bezzecchi also with Aprilia Racing.
Behind the scenes, leadership is thrilled with the trajectory. Jaime Costa, CEO of the Algarve International Circuit, called the contract renewal a sign of confidence in everyone who contributes to staging the event. Carlos Ezpeleta, Deputy CEO of MotoGP, praised the circuit's demanding layout for producing unforgettable racing and becoming an instant favourite among riders and fans.
Beyond the racing spectacle, the economic and regional impact is massive. Pedro Machado, State Secretary for Tourism, emphasized that the continuation signals confidence in the country's future. Carlos Abade, President of Turismo de Portugal, noted the platform's power in promoting the nation globally. Meanwhile, André Gomes, Presidente of Algarve Tourism, pointed out the crucial timing of the event outside the peak season to help establish the region as a year-round destination.
