The Cremona Circuit welcomes the MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship this weekend for Round 10 of the season, and it brings a deeply emotional moment for Pirelli. This weekend's EICMA Italian Round marks their final home race as the official tyre supplier to WorldSBK, bringing a 23-year history as the sole tyre supplier to a close. To celebrate this milestone, the company has arranged a dedicated grandstand for its employees to honour their contributions to this journey.
That said, the racing machine never stops developing. For this weekend at Cremona, Pirelli is bringing a new development SCX tyre into the allocation alongside options from the standard range.
For the WorldSBK rear slick choices, riders have four options available. The SCQ is ready for the Tissot Superpole session, the Tissot Superpole Race, and practice sessions. In the full-length races, the standard SC0 serves as the harder of the two usable tyres, while the SCX category features two choices. Alongside the standard SC0, riders will find the new F0769 development SCX. This new rear option shares the compound of the standard tyre but features a brand-new construction engineered to deliver greater stability through corners and on exit. If the heavens open, standard Intermedia and standard Rain tyres are ready to go.
Up front, WorldSBK riders get two slick choices drawn straight from the standard range. The SC2 medium provides extra mechanical resistance and protection against wear for tracks that test the front end hard, while the softest option is the familiar SC1 soft, a staple throughout the season. Wet weather fronts are covered by standard Intermediate and standard Rain choices.
Down in the World Supersport field, the selection relies entirely on standard options. Front-end choices include the SC1 soft and the SC2 medium, with standard Rain tyres waiting in case of wet weather. At the rear, the softest choice is the SCX supersoft, while the hardest is the SC0 soft, supplemented by the standard Rain tyre for wet conditions.
Discussing the allocation and the emotional weight of the weekend, Giorgio Barbier, Motorcycle Racing Director at Pirelli, explained: “For the Italian Round, we will provide riders with a new supersoft development solution, the F0769. This specification uses the same compound as the SCX range tyre but introduces a completely new structure, developed with the aim of increasing motorcycle stability through the corner and on corner exit, while maintaining a high level of performance consistency over the race distance.”
Barbier also looked back at previous development steps, noting that last year's E0126 supersoft development tyre was chosen by nearly all riders in high temperatures and subsequently promoted to a standard range tyre available to all motorcyclists. That success makes evaluating the new F0769 against such a well-established solution particularly fascinating.
