Sixteen hours of madness at Le Mans
Sixteen hours into the 94th edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans, Cadillac Hertz Team JOTA is somehow still the class of the field. Will Stevens has kept the #12 V-Series.R out of trouble, holding a 48-second cushion over the #8 TOYOTA RACING machine. It is a stunning display of consistency, especially considering the chaos that has dismantled the rest of the Cadillac effort. Two of their cars have been plagued by penalties and mechanical disasters, leaving the team’s hopes pinned entirely on this lead entry.
The battle for the podium is fierce. Brendon Hartley’s Toyota is lurking, and Sheldon van der Linde is doing a brilliant job keeping the #20 BMW M Team WRT entry in the fight, sitting just 51 seconds off the lead. Watching these three manufacturers finally sync up their strategies as day fully breaks over the Circuit de la Sarthe is nothing short of beautiful. The stage is set for a massive final eight hours.
Elsewhere, the drama is relentless. The #101 WTR Cadillac has been crippled by three separate drive-through penalties, while the #38 entry has already been retired after Earl Bamber went off at Mulsanne Corner. In the GT ranks, the #33 TF Sport Corvette has quietly built a massive lead of over two minutes, leaving the rest of the pack to scramble for the remaining podium spots. Down in LMP2, the Duqueine Team is managing a steady lead, but with the track constantly changing and penalties flying, no one is safe.
