The battle for supremacy rages at Le Mans
The 24 Hours of Le Mans has become an absolute chess match. As Saturday night turns into Sunday, Toyota, BMW, and Cadillac are slugging it out for supremacy at the Circuit de la Sarthe, with different pit-stop strategies creating a fascinating, unpredictable phase of racing. The #8 Toyota, #38 Cadillac, and #20 BMW have all led at various points, with the #20 BMW pushing for 13-lap stints compared to the 12-lap run preferred by the Japanese team.
It was an insane display of pace when Earl Bamber dropped a 3m26.370s lap in the #38 Cadillac, putting him 24 seconds ahead before the first safety car emerged to retrieve the #54 VISTA AF Corse Ferrari. That neutralisation at 23:40 has effectively reset the board. Meanwhile, the #15 BMW M Team WRT has suffered a complete disaster; following contact with the #3 DKR Engineering entry, a puncture and subsequent technical issues dropped them to the back of the Hypercar pack.
In the LMGT3 class, the safety car completely upended the standings. The Akkodis ASP Team was cruising in a one-two formation with their Lexus pair before the caution promoted the Heart of Racing Team Aston Martin to the lead. It is a wild, shifting landscape, and with the Duqueine Team holding a strong gap in LMP2 despite a nervous moment for Julien Andlauer in the gravel, the race is far from settled.
