The FIA WEC grows to nine rounds for the 2027 season
Nine rounds. For the first time in ten years, the FIA World Endurance Championship is expanding its horizons, and I cannot wait to see how it plays out. The 2027 calendar is officially here, and it is a massive statement of intent for a series that is currently firing on all cylinders with 14 major automotive marques.
It all kicks off at the Lusail International Circuit for the Prologue and the Qatar 1812km, followed by a frantic European tour. We have the 6 Hours of Imola, and then the news we have all been waiting for: Silverstone is back on the schedule. It is a legendary venue with deep roots in endurance racing, and seeing it return to the fold is just brilliant. After the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the field heads to the 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps before embarking on the flyaway leg in Interlagos, Circuit of the Americas, Fuji Speedway, and Bahrain International Circuit.
It is clear that the championship is in a golden era. With Ford and McLaren joining the Hypercar ranks, the competition is only going to get tighter. As Frédéric Lequien noted, this is the perfect time to grow the schedule, and if the racing matches the ambition of this new nine-round calendar, we are in for a truly sensational year.
