The new BMW M2 with xDrive revealed as the 2026 BMW M Award prize
It is a tradition that feels like the heartbeat of MotoGP qualifying, and this year, the stakes for the 2026 BMW M Award have been raised significantly. During the Grand Prix of Hungary at Balaton Park, the world got its first look at the prize car: the all-new BMW M2 with xDrive. It is a stunning bit of engineering, marking the first time this specific family has featured all-wheel drive, finished in an exclusive BMW Individual Borusan Turkish Blue paint.
Technically, this machine is a beast. Powered by an inline six-cylinder engine with BMW M TwinPower Turbo technology, it hits 100 km/h in 3.7 seconds. That is exactly 0.3 seconds faster than its rear-wheel-drive sibling. Following the official unveiling by Carlos Ezpeleta and Zsuzsanna Pócs, Aprilia Racing rider Jorge Martín took the car onto the circuit alongside Becky Evans for the “BMW M Racing Balance” challenge, testing how that new all-wheel-drive system handles under pressure.
Since 2003, this award has been the ultimate carrot for the fastest qualifiers in the world, with legends like eight-time winner Marc Márquez and three-time winner Francesco Bagnaia setting the bar. The prize serves as a cornerstone of BMW M’s long-standing role as the Official Car of MotoGP, and whoever accumulates the most qualifying points by the final session of 2026 will be taking this new M2 home.
