Xavi Artigas (MTM Kawasaki) wasted no time making his presence felt at Cremona Circuit, taking the opening FIM Sportbike World Championship points of the final four races with a stunning victory. Right behind the winner, Harrison Dessoy (PHR Performance Triumph) grabbed P2 to secure his second runner-up finish of the season, while David Salvador (Team ProDina Kawasaki XCI) salvaged a crucial bronze medal to keep his Riders' Championship lead intact.
Things kicked off with immediate drama when polesitter Carter Thompson (Team BrCorse) suffered a major moment in the first sector, dropping back to P4 as Artigas seized the early lead. Ferre Fleerackers (Track & Trades Wixx Racing) launched an impressive charge from a P7 start, fighting his way to the front to lead Lap 2 before slipping back. As the race entered its final five laps, the Belgian driver and Australian competitor Thompson found themselves tumbling to P5 and P6, paving the way for Dessoy and championship leader Salvador to charge into the top four alongside late-charging additions Fenton Seabright (PHR Performance Triumph) and Alvaro Fuertes (Deza-Box 77 Racing Team).
Heading into the final lap, Artigas held firm at the front while a fierce five-rider brawl erupted right behind him for the remaining rostrum places. Dessoy and Seabright looked primed to secure a double podium for Triumph, but Salvador managed to muscle his way past the #73 in the dying metres before the finish line. The #55 rider will undoubtedly take confidence from bagging his second podium of the campaign, especially after Aragon. Salvador admitted afterwards that he was far from happy with his machine's performance on the straights, but a P3 finish is no small feat. Consequently, the #34 cut his championship deficit to 21 points, meaning the #38 cannot mathematically clinch the title this weekend as a 50-point advantage is required.
Seabright narrowly missed out on a podium coup, finishing just 0.161s away from the top three after spending the first half of the race lingering in the lower half of the top four. Meanwhile, Fuertes put in a brilliant recovery drive after a penalised P13 grid start—stemming from a Slow Riding penalty handed down by FIM WorldSBK Stewards—to cross the line in P6, one position better than his original P7 Superpole finishing spot.
Further down the order, Ferre Fleerackers crossed the line right where he started in P7; his brilliant stint leading Lap 2 showed serious promise, but the pace simply didn't stick for the Belgian. Marco Gaggi (Team BrCorse) produced a brave lunge up the inside of the championship leader on Lap 1, though that proved to be the absolute peak of his Saturday afternoon before sliding down the order to finish P8. Pepe Osuna (Deza-Box 77 Racing Team) successfully extended his top-ten finishing streak to four consecutive races by taking P9, while American racer Julian Correa (Pons Motosport Italika Racing) equalled his season-high WorldSPB result by matching his P10 finish from Aragon.
With Race 2 at Cremona still on the horizon, the title battle is officially pushed forward to Jerez.
