Here is the thing: DragonSpeed is making a bold jump. The squad is shifting back to the Grand Touring Daytona Pro (GTD PRO) category for the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship season finale at Motul Petit Le Mans.
To make this move count, they have secured a massive weapon. None other than two-time Motul Petit Le Mans winner Sebastien Bourdais (yes, that Sebastien Bourdais) is joining the lineup. He will share the Corvette Z06 GT3.R with Giacomo Altoe and Casper Stevenson. Their exact car number will drop when the official Motul Petit Le Mans entry list comes out.
Team principal Elton Julian did not hide his excitement about landing an absolute ace to close out their GT campaign for 2026. "When the decision was taken to race in Pro to close out our GT campaign (for 2026), we needed an ace in the pocket and we found one," Julian explained. He added that over the years, the squad has raced with some of the great drivers of their generation, and Bourdais fits right into that lineage.
Bourdais himself is thrilled by the unexpected call-up. "Getting a call up from DragonSpeed and being asked to race with them really put a smile on my face," Bourdais said. He loves the track, noting he has enjoyed plenty of past success there. This outing marks his third different class in the last three years, bringing entirely new challenges.
Stepping into a GTD PRO Corvette means tackling two brand new ventures at once. But hearing from everyone he has talked to, the Chevy is a great machine. The primary mission for the weekend is clear: help DragonSpeed, Elton, Henrik Hedman, Giacomo Altoe, Casper Stevenson, and the entire crew secure a win for GM.
