Arrow McLaren has locked in its driver numbers for the 2027 NTT IndyCar SERIES season, and it brings a massive visual change for some absolute titans of the sport. The announcement made on Sept. 23 maps out the digits each pilot will sport when the lights go out.
Pato O'Ward will continue holding down the fort in the No. 5 machine. But alongside him, the numbers game gets wildly interesting. Scott Dixon is taking over the No. 6 entry, which means a seismic shift for a driver who has raced under his iconic familiar No. 9 for all but one of the past 24 seasons—having only run the No. 1 back in 2004. That is more than two decades in the same digits, making this a genuinely historic visual break for the veteran.
This team has continued to raise the bar year after year, and with Pato, Scott, Felix and Ryan in the cockpit, we believe we have the tools to achieve our goals.
Meanwhile, Felix Rosenqvist slides into the No. 7. Fresh off his Indianapolis 500 presented by Gainbridge victory in 2026, Rosenqvist returns to the exact same number he wheeled during his first two seasons with Arrow McLaren from 2021-22. Rounding out the roster for the big one, Ryan Hunter-Reay is back in the No. 31 for the team's additional Indy 500 entry next May.
Alongside the number reveals, the outfit unveiled a brand-new font style for the car numbers, aligning directly with the rebrand that McLaren Racing rolled out on Sept. 22 to take effect in January 2027. Fans will have to hold tight for the actual liveries, but Team Principal Tony Kanaan made it clear they are ready. "We're excited to begin our next chapter in 2027," Kanaan said, adding, "This team has continued to raise the bar year after year, and with Pato, Scott, Felix and Ryan in the cockpit, we believe we have the tools to achieve our goals."
Thankfully, we do not have to wait forever to see these beasts hit the asphalt. The 2027 NTT IndyCar SERIES season officially kicks off on Sunday, March 7 in St. Petersburg, Florida.
