Cal Crutchlow returns to Silverstone for the British Grand Prix
It is finally official: Cal Crutchlow will be back on the grid for his home race. The British rider is set to pilot the Castrol Honda LCR machine at the Qatar Airways Grand Prix of Great Britain, once again stepping in for the injured Johann Zarco.
Crutchlow has been filling the void left by the Frenchman since the Italian Grand Prix, but seeing him back at Silverstone is a different kind of magic. This is a venue where he has real history, having last raced there in 2021 as a substitute for Franco Morbidelli while riding for Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP. Before that, his last full-time outing at the track was back in 2019, where he brought his Castrol Honda LCR entry home in P6.
Looking back at his history at this circuit, one moment stands out above all else. In 2016, racing with LCR, he clinched pole position and followed it up with a P2 finish in the Grand Prix—a result that cemented a brilliant run of back-to-back podiums following his debut win in Brno. That is the kind of pedigree he brings back to the Northamptonshire tarmac.
Over his career, he has logged five top seven results at this event, with finishes including P6 in 2012, P7 in 2013, P4 in 2017, and that P6 in 2019. While he acknowledges that matching those specific results might be a tall order, the energy he brings to the British faithful is undeniable. After a tough battle for points at the Sachsenring, the home crowd will be waiting to see if he can find that extra gear once more.
