Italian legends and stars honoured for their cultural impact in Rome
It is not every day that the world of high-speed motorcycle racing takes center stage at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, but that is exactly what happened this Tuesday in Rome. In a gathering titled “MOTO D’ITALIA – CULTURE BEYOND THE TRACK,” the Italian government turned its attention to the men who have defined the spirit of motorcycling, celebrating them not just as athletes, but as cultural pillars.
The list of names honoured as “Sport Diplomacy Ambassadors” is nothing short of incredible. Seven-time MotoGP World Champion Valentino Rossi joined the ceremony via video link, alongside multiple MotoGP winner Marco Bezzecchi, who appeared remotely as he continues his recovery. They were joined in person by two-time MotoGP World Champion Francesco Bagnaia of the Ducati Lenovo Team, as well as MotoGP Hall of Famer Giacomo Agostini and MotoGP Legend Max Biaggi.
It is truly something special to see the sport receive this level of recognition. The event was not just about the riders; it was a summit of the figures who keep the machinery of the sport turning. CEOs were in the room, including Aprilia Racing’s Massimo Rivola and Ducati’s Claudio Domenicali, alongside FMI President Giovanni Copioli and MotoGP Group CEO Carmelo Ezpeleta.
Seeing these titans of the paddock standing alongside government officials really drives home how deeply ingrained motorcycling is in the Italian identity. This was a day dedicated to the industry and the history of the track, acknowledging that these legends have carried the Italian flag across the globe for generations. It is a stunning tribute to the heritage of the sport and the people who built its legacy.
