That wild finish at Martinsville spilled over into a ridiculous physical assault, as Speedcafe reports. The ValleyStar Credit Union 300 on Sunday (AEST) was part of the NASCAR Local Racing Series, and things boiled right over on the final lap. Corey Heim, running in third place, made contact with second-placed Treyten Lapcevich to steal the runner-up spot.
That was just the warm-up. As soon as the checkered flag dropped, Lapcevich pulled side-by-side with Heim heading into the first turn, and they tangled again. Heim's Late Model Stock Car climbed right over the front left corner of Lapcevich's machine and slammed into the outside wall.
Then came the absolute disaster off the track. Post-race, Chad Bryant Racing crew members ambushed Heim at the circuit's famous hot dog stand. Footage on social media showed Heim simply taking the onslaught with bemusement and refusing to fight back.
Denny Hamlin, who co-owns the 23XI Racing team that Heim drives for in other competition, did not hold back on Actions Detrimental. He pointed out that Heim was still wearing his 23XI Racing suit at the event and demanded severe punishment from NASCAR.
“Those fucking cowards waited on Corey Heim to leave his car and leave his team and then jump him while he was on the way to his hauler,” Hamlin said. He called for anyone involved to be banned from pit lane for at least a year, insisting that NASCAR needs to regain control over the situation at Martinsville.
Treyten Lapcevich also released a statement condemning the violence. While admitting he was frustrated and wanted to talk to Heim after the race, Lapcevich made it clear that physical attacks cross the line and never find justification in on-track anger.
Despite getting jumped, Heim handled the aftermath with pure humor. He took to X with a laughing emoji and the message, “Solid effort, but at least make it count next time,” before posting a photo of the hot dog stand's menu—which reads “A half mile of mayhem”—calling it a new office piece that took a beating.
This marks the second major fight to hit NASCAR recently, following wild scenes between Carson Hocevar and Ryan Blaney at Bristol where series officials opted against handing out punishments.
