Audi are doubling down on their Formula 1 adventure with a brand-new campus planned in Switzerland, marking a major step in the German manufacturer's commitment to the sport. Since joining the F1 grid at the start of this season by taking over the Sauber outfit and their factory in Hinwil, the organization has mapped out a massive infrastructure expansion less than one kilometre away from their current base.
Parts of the new Zurichstrasse campus are already up and running, having become operational during the summer. The full development is scheduled for completion by 2030, but the team's footprint is already evolving. The existing site on Wildbachstrasse will stay fully operational before being redeveloped into the team's manufacturing centre and windtunnel operation. Meanwhile, Formula 1 power units will continue to be developed and manufactured in Neuburg, Germany, and the team will keep its technical centre in Bicester, United Kingdom.
The campus will play an important role in helping us attract and retain world-class talent while providing the foundations required to achieve our long-term ambitions,
On the track, Audi currently sit eighth in the teams' standings, holding firm hopes of moving up the grid as these new facilities come online. Team Principal Mattia Binotto emphasized the human element behind the bricks and mortar.
“The campus will play an important role in helping us attract and retain world-class talent while providing the foundations required to achieve our long-term ambitions,” said Team Principal Mattia Binotto. “Building a successful Formula 1 team is ultimately about people. The best engineers, designers, mechanics and specialists want to work in an environment that allows them to collaborate, innovate and perform at their highest level. The campus will help us create exactly that environment.”
Binotto also highlighted the rarity of the project in the current sporting landscape. “What makes this project particularly special is that it allows us to shape the future of Audi Revolut F1 Team from the ground up. Opportunities like this are rare in modern Formula 1. We are not simply moving into an existing facility; we are creating a home designed around our people, our culture and our ambitions. This campus is an important part of that journey. We are proud that the next chapter of Audi Revolut F1 Team will be written in Hinwil and I would like place on record my thanks to the Municipality of Hinwil itself.”
