Every single gap between first and second place in the championship standings sits within 118 points. GTD PRO is the tightest at 23 points, LMP2 and GTD both stand at 36, and GTP sits at 118.
A total of 44 cars are entered across the classes, split into 11 GTP machines, 10 LMP2 prototypes, 10 GTD PRO entries, and 13 GTD cars. The entry list features some notable roster shuffling. Chasing the GTP title, Laurin Heinrich moves back to Porsche Penske Motorsport a race early to pilot the No. 6 Porsche 963 alongside Kevin Estre. Stepping into his former seat at JDC-Miller MotorSports, Nico Mueller returns to Indianapolis for a second year alongside Tijmen van der Helm in the No. 5 car. Meanwhile, past LMP2 champion, Jim Trueman Award winner, and two-time Indianapolis polesitter Nick Boulle makes his first start of the year with Era Motorsport in LMP2, and Car Blanche continues in GTD PRO for a second consecutive race.
The championship storylines offer plenty of drama. In GTP, Jack Aitken leads the standings in the No. 31 Cadillac Whelen Cadillac V-Series.R after the dramatic end to Road America condensed the fight, leaving Heinrich just 118 points back as he switches to the Porsche Penske entry. In LMP2, the battle between the No. 04 CrowdStrike Racing by APR and No. 43 Inter Europol Competition ORECA LMP2 07s could open up if either stumbles, though defending champions AO Racing and United Autosports USA are waiting in the wings. Over in GTD PRO, a mere 67 points cover the top five contenders, led by the No. 1 Paul Miller Racing BMW M4 GT3 EVO over the No. 4 Corvette Racing by Pratt Miller Motorsports Corvette Z06 GT3.R. Pfaff Motorsports’ No. 9 Lamborghini Temerario GT3 sits third, while the No. 65 Ford Racing Ford Mustang GT3 and the No. 77 AO Racing Porsche 911 GT3 R are tied for fourth. Winward Racing's No. 57 Mercedes-AMG GT3 arrives hunting a third straight title after claiming three consecutive victories, and in the Bob Akin Award battle, Brendan Iribe holds a 20-point lead over Orey Fidani following a third-place finish at VIR with co-driver Frederik Schandorff in the No. 70 Inception Racing Ferrari 296 GT3 EVO.
Manufacturer titles are also up for grabs with only two rounds remaining. Cadillac holds a 112-point advantage over Porsche in GTP, Chevrolet leads BMW by 87 points in GTD PRO, and Mercedes-AMG leads Ferrari by 20 in GTD. After two years as an endurance round, this Brickyard visit returns to a sprint format matching the time length of the Indianapolis 500 on the oval.
Certain competitors arrive with formidable track records. Mikkel Jensen boasts a perfect 3-for-3 record in LMP2 at the Brickyard, previously winning with TDS Racing and now teaming up with Phil Fayer in the No. 2 ORECA LMP2 07 fielded by United Autosports USA. Cadillac Whelen brings its past Indianapolis wins from 2014 and 2025, while Porsche counts four wins at the venue across GTP and various GT classes. Recent momentum favors the No. 57 Winward Racing Mercedes-AMG GT3 with its three straight victories, the No. 43 Inter Europol Competition ORECA LMP2 07 coming off back-to-back wins with Jeremy Clarke and Tom Dillmann, the No. 9 Pfaff Motorsports Lamborghini Temerario GT3 driven by Andrea Caldarelli and Sandy Mitchell after consecutive wins, and the No. 5 JDC-Miller MotorSports Porsche 963 as the sole GTP entry riding back-to-back podium finishes.
