Now, here is something genuinely interesting for the junior single-seater faithful. The FIA Formula 2 Championship and FIA Formula 3 Championship have officially dropped their schedules for the 2027 campaign, and both series are sticking right beside Formula 1 for another year.
Let us look at the numbers because they tell the whole story. Formula 2 is locking in a heavy 14-round calendar, while Formula 3 is set for 10 rounds across the season. Both championships will kick off their campaigns in March down in Bahrain and Jeddah, before shipping out to Melbourne in April and Montreal in May.
Speaking of Montreal, Formula 2 makes its return there after racing in Canada for the first time in 2026, while Formula 3 will visit Jeddah and Montreal for the very first time. But that is not even the wildest part of the schedule. Istanbul is jumping onto both calendars, staging a race for the first time in the FIA Formula 2 era and hosting the season-ending F3 round as a brand new venue. Meanwhile, Mexico City joins the F2 calendar for the absolute first time.
After those early rounds, the machine rolls on through June around Monaco, followed directly by back-to-back weekends at Silverstone and Spielberg. Once the summer break clears the air, racing resumes at Monza before heading straight to Madrid. Formula 2 then takes on Azerbaijan all on its own as the sole supporting championship in September, before both categories reunite in Istanbul.
For the grand finale, Formula 2 pushes on past Istanbul to visit Mexico at the end of October, before wrapping up the year with the final two rounds in Qatar and Abu Dhabi.
Formula 1 President and CEO Stefano Domenicali shared his thoughts on the upcoming season: “The 2027 FIA Formula 2 calendar will deliver another exciting season of racing across 14 rounds at some of the most iconic and challenging venues in world motorsport, including the addition of Istanbul and Mexico City.”
Meanwhile, FIA Formula 2 CEO Bruno Michel highlighted the logistics behind the ambitious expansion: “I’m very excited to add three new venues in a financially sustainable way, with the return of Montreal following its surprise addition in 2026 and the first appearance of Istanbul and Mexico City. We will be covering freight costs so that the territorial expansion of the calendar does not financially impact our teams.”
