Now, here is something genuinely interesting for the junior single-seater faithful. The FIA Formula 2 Championship and FIA Formula 3 Championship have officially dropped their respective calendars for the 2027 campaign, and there are some wild new destinations on the horizon. Both of these beastly junior categories will continue to support Formula 1 across the year, with F2 locked in for 14 rounds while Formula 3 takes to the track for 10 rounds alongside them.
Let's talk about where these machines are actually heading, because the additions are stunning. F2 is heading back to Montreal following its debut appearance in Canada in 2026, while Mexico City is joining the calendar for the very first time. On top of that, Istanbul is making its return to stage a race for the absolute first time in the FIA Formula 2 era. Formula 3 is getting in on the exploration too, visiting Jeddah and Montreal for the very first time, before wrapping up its season at that same new venue in Istanbul.
I’m very excited to add three new venues in a financially sustainable way, with the return of Montreal following its surprise addition in 2026 and the first appearance of Istanbul and Mexico City,
Both championships kick off their campaigns in March over in Bahrain and Jeddah, before jetting off to Melbourne in April and Montreal in May. After that, F2 and F3 return to action in June around the legendary streets of Monaco, followed immediately by back-to-back rounds at Silverstone and Spielberg. Once the summer break clears out, the action fires back up in Monza before heading straight to Madrid.
The schedules diverge slightly toward the autumn stretch. F2 stands alone as the sole supporting championship in Azerbaijan during September, before both categories link back up with F1 in Istanbul for the season-ending F3 round. From there, F2 closes out its own year with a trip to Mexico at the end of October, followed by the final two rounds of the campaign in Qatar and Abu Dhabi.
Stefano Domenicali, President and CEO of Formula 1, emphasized the vital role of the pathway. “The 2027 FIA Formula 2 calendar will deliver another exciting season of racing across 14 rounds at some of the most iconic and challenging venues in world motorsport, including the addition of Istanbul and Mexico City,” he said. He added that the championship “continues to play a vital role as the ultimate pathway to Formula 1, giving the most promising young drivers the opportunity to compete on the same stage as the pinnacle of our sport.”
Meanwhile, Bruno Michel, FIA Formula 2 CEO, highlighted the logistics behind the geographic expansion. “I’m very excited to add three new venues in a financially sustainable way, with the return of Montreal following its surprise addition in 2026 and the first appearance of Istanbul and Mexico City,” Michel said. Crucially for the teams, he noted, “We will be covering freight costs so that the territorial expansion of the calendar does not financially impact our teams.” With four continents on the schedule, it promises to be a demanding test for the next generation.
