That is just an absolute disaster for Francesco Bagnaia, whose promising Qatar GP weekend has been cut short in the most brutal way possible. The Ducati Lenovo Team rider is completely out of action for Sunday after a heavy Lap 1 fall at Turn 16. It was a nasty incident that brought out the red flag while the Italian was stretchered away from the scene.
The #63 machine was launched into the air after Fermin Aldeguer, running with BK8 Gresini Racing MotoGP, made contact with the back of his Ducati. Pecco was entirely the innocent party in this wild collision, yet he is the one paying the heavy price with his body.
Medical checks at the Lusail International Circuit Medical Centre quickly confirmed the worst. MotoGP Medical Director Angel Charte provided the update on the rider's condition, explaining that initial examinations revealed two fractures in his right foot, specifically involving the fourth and fifth metatarsals.
There is more testing ahead, as the rider will be transferred to Doha Hospital tonight to determine whether those fractures require surgery. Get well soon, Pecco!
