That is how you deliver a championship campaign. The Estonian driver, alongside co-driver Jakko Viilo, put together a remarkable season to claim the WRC2 title aboard their Toksport WRT-run Škoda Fabia RS Rally2.
It was a dominant run of form that saw the crew secure four consecutive victories in Kenya, Greece, Estonia and Finland. Those wins not only delivered a maiden world title for the driver, but also marked a fitting milestone for Škoda as the manufacturer celebrates 125 years of motorsport history.
This year the competition was extreme and it felt amazing to stand on top in the end.
"I think it’s the best possible way to celebrate the anniversary," said Virves. "I’m really happy that we managed to deliver so many victories throughout the season and, of course, secure the WRC2 title for Škoda."
Reflecting on the journey, the 26-year-old was quick to point to the vital role played by Škoda Motorsport and Toksport WRT, noting that the backing had been crucial not just this year, but stretching back to last season as well. He expressed immense gratitude for the trust shown in them and satisfaction in returning that support with silverware.
Virves also praised the relentless efforts behind the competitiveness of the Fabia RS Rally2, pointing out that everyone at Škoda Motorsport and Toksport works non-stop to remain the benchmark in the category, emphasizing that the results belong to a large group of hardworking people.
Among the four victories, the triumph at home stood out above the rest. "Obviously, the win at home," Virves said when asked for his highlight. "This year the competition was extreme and it felt amazing to stand on top in the end."
With the crown secured, attention is already shifting toward the future, although plans for next season are still coming together. Virves admitted that work has been underway for some time and expects a clearer picture to emerge within the next few weeks.
