Now, that is how you blow a race wide open. Marc Marquez (Ducati Lenovo Team) secured a stunning gold on Saturday at the Pertamina Grand Prix of Indonesia, taking the victory and the championship lead after a wild Tissot Sprint that saw early leader Jorge Martin (Aprilia Racing) unravel into a chaotic fourth-place finish.
Lights out immediately meant absolute chaos at Turn 1. Polesitter Raul Fernandez (SuperFile Trackhouse MotoGP Team) and Marco Bezzecchi (Aprilia Racing) went down together in a crunch after a drag race to the corner, with Marc Marquez and Fabio Di Giannantonio (Pertamina Enduro VR46 Racing Team) diving up the inside. The ensuing knock-on effect left Bezzecchi with nowhere to go. Thankfully, both riders were okay. Right through that wreckage carved Martin, sweeping around the apex to inherit the lead and control of the 12 points on offer.
For a moment, it looked like a straight fight. Marc Marquez chased in second, with Ai Ogura (SuperFile Trackhouse MotoGP Team) emerging third ahead of Di Giannantonio, who had Alex Marquez (BK8 Gresini Racing MotoGP) breathing down his neck in fifth. Martin put the hammer down and stretched his advantage to well over a second, looking untouchable. Then came the first twist with four laps to go: the #89 suddenly sat up, shedding more than two seconds in a single lap and handing the lead straight to Marc Marquez.
Just as quickly, the pendulum swung back. Martin fought his way back onto the tail of the leading Ducati, dragging company with him as Pedro Acosta (Red Bull KTM Factory Racing) slipped away from the podium fight after picking up a long lap penalty for track limits. With three laps remaining, the Aprilia was locked on the leader's exhaust. But then disaster struck at Turn 15. Martin was forced into a massive save, running wide and off the circuit entirely. Just like that, he dropped out of the rostrum places and found himself down in fourth.

Up front, Ogura gave it everything, slashing the gap in half on the final lap before running out of road. Marc Marquez crossed the line to take his first Sprint win at Mandalika, stealing the championship lead by four points in the process. Ogura claimed a brilliant second to close within a point of Acosta in the title fight, while Di Giannantonio rounded out the podium in third. Martin ultimately dragged his machine home in fourth.
Further down the order, Alex Marquez claimed fifth in clean air, with Acosta salvaging sixth despite his penalty. Fermin Aldeguer (BK8 Gresini Racing MotoGP) slotted into seventh ahead of Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati Lenovo Team), and Fabio Quartararo (Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP) scraped into the final point-scoring position in ninth. The stage is well and truly set for Sunday.
