That said, the future is officially mapped out. According to Motorsport.com, FIA Formula 2 has laid out its 14-weekend schedule for the 2027 season, bringing a pair of brand new stops to the Formula 1 support category.
Beginning with a traditional opener in Bahrain from March 12-14 and wrapping up in Abu Dhabi from December 10-12, the championship is stretching its global footprint further than ever. The headline addition takes the series to Latin America for the very first time, slotting onto the Formula 1 Mexico City Grand Prix program from October 29-31 before the final dash in Qatar and Abu Dhabi. Istanbul also returns to the calendar alongside the circuit's comeback to F1, set for October 1-3. Meanwhile, Canada stays put on the schedule from May 21-23 following the success of the 2026 edition, which ran alongside Miami as replacements for the opening rounds in the Middle East.
Bruno Michel, CEO of FIA Formula 2 and Formula 3, made the announcement in Mexico City, stating: "The addition of Mexico City to our 2027 FIA Formula 2 calendar will bring the category closer to new audiences and strengthen its position as a global platform for the next generation of Formula 1 talent. I would also like to thank Rafael Villagómez Sr., who was key to making this possible. I can't wait for Mexican fans attending the Mexico GP to enjoy our races live at this great circuit!"
Beyond the travel logistics, the machines themselves are getting a massive shakeup. The category will debut a completely new car in 2027, unveiled just a month ago. To keep budgets sane, the vehicle maintains the conceptual base of the current generation for cost control, while packing specific upgrades in aerodynamics, usability, and track performance.

Once again manufactured by Dallara, the beast will be driven by a 3.4-liter V6 turbo Mecachrome engine pushing out 620 HP at 8,750 rpm and 570 Nm of torque, entirely fed by 100% sustainable Aramco fuel. Visually, the styling takes direct aesthetic cues from modern Formula 1 cars with redesigned front and rear wings built to optimize airflow and help drivers follow and overtake at high speeds.
The full 2027 calendar lines up as follows: March 12-14 in Sakhir, March 19-21 in Jeddah, April 2-4 in Melbourne, May 21-23 in Montreal, June 4-6 in Monte-Carlo, July 2-4 in Silverstone, July 9-11 at the Red Bull Ring, September 3-5 in Monza, September 10-12 in Madring, September 24-26 in Baku, October 1-3 in Istanbul, October 29-31 in Mexico City, December 3-5 in Losail, and December 10-12 at Yas Marina.
