Here is the thing, sometimes you just have to look at a machine, look at the calendar, and call it. Aleix Espargaro will not take part in the Grand Prix race at the Pertamina Grand Prix of Indonesia. That is the harsh reality coming out of the Honda HRC Castrol garage.
It is a decision born out of pure physical necessity. The #41 has already endured plenty of time on the sidelines this year following a massive crash earlier in the season during testing. Pair that lingering recovery with the unique and brutal physical demands of racing round Mandalika, and both the rider and the Honda HRC Castrol team decided that withdrawing from the event was the only sensible path forward.
Let us not forget how he got here in the first place, either. Espargaro is currently in Lombok acting as a replacement rider for the sidelined Joan Mir, who has been stuck struggling with illness. Mir's absence leaves us waiting to see if he will be confirmed for a return at Phillip Island in Australia, where he would slot back in to rejoin Luca Marini in the Honda HRC Castrol box.
