Here is the thing about wild finishes: sometimes they happen exactly when the championship is on the line. As Motorsport.com reports, Corey Day took his second straight victory in the NASCAR O'Reilly Auto Parts Series at Charlotte after a chaotic Monday race that was pushed back from Saturday due to rain.
The real turning point came on the final restart with ten laps to go. Day launched a stunning three-wide pass for the lead on Jesse Love and Justin Allgaier, seizing the moment when the No. 2 machine got loose in front of the field. Day then had to hold off Love in the closing laps to secure his fourth win of the 2026 season behind the wheel of the No. 17 Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet.
"That was crucial. I think if I don't do that, I don't win the race," Day said. It capped off an insane recovery drive. Earlier in the day, the Hendrick driver had to fight back from an end-of-line penalty for driving through too many pit boxes and a sketchy moment where he brushed the wall.
Behind Day, Jesse Love crossed the line second, followed by Sheldon Creed in third, Justin Allgaier in fourth, and rookie Carson Brown in fifth. Brandon Jones, Austin Hill, Anthony Alfredo, Taylor Gray, and Brennan Poole rounded out the top ten. The race also marked a historic milestone, making Day the first Hendrick NOAPS driver to win back-to-back races since Kyle Busch all the way back in 2004.
The championship fight has tightened dramatically as a result. Sheldon Creed still leads the standings, but his advantage is down to just two points over Jesse Love and a razor-thin seven points over Corey Day. Meanwhile, Justin Allgaier sits 15 points back, and Carson Kvapil suffered a massive blow to his title hopes after falling 40 points behind following an unscheduled pit stop for a flat tire and wall damage.
