Here is some major silly season news: Daniel Suárez is staying put. Spire Motorsports officially announced via its social media that the driver will return to the team's No. 7 Chevrolet for the 2027 NASCAR Cup Series season.
It is hard to argue with the logic when you look at the track record. This extension rewards a brilliant campaign, marking Suárez's most consistent year to date. He currently boasts a career-best 15.2 average finish with just four races remaining in the 2026 season. That first year with the organization brought absolute highlights, including a massive win at the Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway in May and a qualification for The Chase presented by Mobil 1.
Let us not forget the historic milestone here either. Suárez and his teammate Carson Hocevar successfully earned Spire Motorsports its very first appearances in NASCAR's postseason this year. That is quite the turnaround from how things looked previously. Before joining Spire Motorsports this season—and collecting those wins—he spent five years at Trackhouse Racing, where he took his first two career victories and made the postseason twice, though that tenure ultimately slipped into a disappointing 29th-place finish in the 2025 final standings.
Thankfully, the 2026 campaign has proven to be a true season of rejuvenation for both the driver and the No. 7 team. Suárez has not dropped lower than 17th in the points standings across the entire year. He sits comfortably in 14th entering Sunday's Freeway Insurance 500 at Phoenix Raceway, where he will carry the Freeway Insurance colors on his machine.
That race starts at 3 p.m. ET and will be broadcast on USA Network, HBO Max, MRN Radio, and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio. With his future sorted early, Suárez can attack the remaining tracks with absolute clarity.
