Here is the thing about the junior single-seater ladder: it keeps growing its horizons. The FIA Formula 2 Championship and FIA Formula 3 Championship have officially locked down their schedules for the 2027 campaign, and both series will continue running as direct support acts to Formula 1.
F2 is locked in for a 14-round season, while Formula 3 will contest 10 rounds. The expansion brings some wild new destinations and exciting returns. For F2, Montreal makes a return after its initial appearance in 2026, while Mexico City joins the schedule for the absolute first time. Istanbul also returns to action, hosting an F2 race for the very first time in the modern era of the championship.
Meanwhile, Formula 3 is getting a taste of fresh tarmac too. The junior category will head to Jeddah and Montreal for the first time ever, before wrapping up its season at a brand-new venue in Istanbul.
Both championships get going in March out in Bahrain and Jeddah, before a quick trip to Melbourne in April and Montreal in May. June brings the iconic streets of Monaco into the mix, followed immediately by back-to-back European rounds at Silverstone and Spielberg. Once the summer break clears, the action fires back up at Monza and then moves straight to Madrid.
From there, the schedules diverge slightly. F2 takes on Azerbaijan alone in September before both series converge on Istanbul, which marks the season-ending round for Formula 3. F2 then finishes its year with a trip to Mexico at the end of October, followed by the final two rounds in Qatar and Abu Dhabi.
Formula 1 President and CEO Stefano Domenicali emphasized the importance of the pathway, noting that the 14-round F2 calendar features iconic and challenging venues while continuing to serve as the ultimate proving ground for future stars. FIA Formula 2 CEO Bruno Michel highlighted that the addition of Montreal, Istanbul, and Mexico City was achieved in a financially sustainable way, with freight costs covered to protect the teams from the expansion's financial impact across four continents.
