Now this is the kind of announcement that makes you sit up and pay attention. Rafael Câmara is heading to Formula 1, having officially signed with Haas F1 Team for the 2027 season.
Let us look at the credentials the Brazilian driver brings to the table. Câmara currently leads the FIA Formula 2 Drivers' Championship, boasting three wins, four further podiums, and five pole positions this year. That is serious pace. And it is not his first taste of the ultimate machine either, having already sampled Formula 1 machinery with Haas back in August during a Testing of Previous Cars session at Autódromo Internacional do Algarve in Portimao, Portugal, where he jumped into the cockpit of the VF-25.
We’re all excited about this opportunity and really committed as TGR Haas F1 Team to nurture this talent and provide a place where he can flourish,
“I’m very happy to be joining TGR Haas F1 Team as a Formula 1 driver,” Câmara said, acknowledging the backing of the Scuderia Ferrari Driver Academy, his family, and team leadership. “It’s an important step in my career and I want to thank Gene Haas and Ayao Komatsu for the trust they have placed in me.”
Haas Team Principal Ayao Komatsu did not hold back in his praise for the incoming rookie, pointing specifically to standout qualifying performances in difficult conditions like Monaco and Montreal as proof of his raw speed. Komatsu also highlighted that Portugal test where the youngster managed to extract special laps with very little time to learn the car.
“We’re all excited about this opportunity and really committed as TGR Haas F1 Team to nurture this talent and provide a place where he can flourish,” Komatsu added.
For now, the focus shifts entirely to preparation. There is a lot to learn before 2027, but Câmara has firmly stamped his ticket to the big leagues.
