The goal is simple and absolute: to win. That is the clear ambition for Kean Nakamura-Berta as he prepares to dive headfirst into a rookie Formula 3 campaign in 2027 with TRIDENT. The British driver arrives in the championship carrying serious momentum and a glittering single-seater resume, having collected victories in the 2025 Italian F4 and Euro 4 Championships, followed by the 2026 Formula Regional Middle East Trophy. Most recently, he added a third-place finish in the Formula Regional European Championship to his growing list of achievements.
Preparation for the massive step up has already been underway, with the Williams Driver Academy member logging four crucial days of running across tests at Jerez and Barcelona. He made an instant statement right out of the gate in Jerez by topping the timesheets on Day 1. Transitioning to the new machine has been an eye-opener, but a thoroughly enjoyable one. Speaking about the machinery, the 18-year-old pointed out the stark differences from what he is used to. “The Formula 3 has a lot more power, and a lot more downforce,” he noted. “The tyres interact in a different way compared to Formula Regional. But it's super, super fun to drive. I am loving every minute of it, every second.”
Well, I think the goal for everyone is to win the championship,
Stepping up to Formula 3 also means confronting entirely new environments, including the unique pressure of racing on a Formula 1 weekend. It is a massive jump from the lower categories, but the young driver feels entirely grounded in his new surroundings. Life within his new home has started on a brilliant note, with the outfit making him feel instantly embraced despite their varied regional roots across Italy. He specifically highlighted the leadership of Giacomo in managing people and the wealth of experience brought by the engineers.
“I'm super, super excited to get the season started,” he said. “Of course joining a team like TRIDENT with a vast history of winning in the championship and looking so strong, it's a really good place to start. F3 is a massive jump from the lower categories. It's the first time you're on an F1 weekend and it's a really surreal experience. But I think I'm in the right place, I have good people around me and I can't wait to start.”
Looking ahead to the upcoming battles on the track, the target remains unchanged from every other year of his racing life. Having tasted success at every level so far, the rookie wants to continue that exact trajectory when the lights go out. “Well, I think the goal for everyone is to win the championship,” he stated. “So hopefully we can fight for it. I think that's the goal.”
