It is time for raw superspeedway racing, and the NASCAR Cup Series is heading to the iconic Talladega Superspeedway for Sunday's event. This YellaWood 500 marks the eighth of 10 races in this season's Chase presented by Mobil 1, and it stands as the 34th points-paying round overall. Chase Briscoe comes into the weekend as the defending fall winner.
Everything is wide open following a chaotic contest at Phoenix Raceway. Tyler Reddick and the No. 45 23XI Racing camp powered their way to Victory Lane, securing their sixth win of the season and their first of the Chase. That race was an absolute disaster for the defending Cup champion, Kyle Larson, and the No. 5 Hendrick Motorsports team after a 34th-place scuffle.
That single stumble blew the championship battle completely open. Every other Chaser managed to gain ground on Larson, leaving six Chase drivers within 56 points of the defending champion heading into this weekend.
Forty cars are officially entered into the field for Sunday's battle. The green flag waves at 2 p.m. ET, with coverage broadcast on NBC, HBO Max, MRN Radio, and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio.
