Here is the thing about endurance racing: it is ultimately a team sport, yet the championship standings have long treated two-car operations as entirely separate entities. That is about to change. The FIA World Endurance Championship has announced an updated scoring system specifically for the LMGT3 Teams’ standings, and it arrives starting next season.
Under the new regulations, points accrued by both cars entered under the same competitor licence will be combined to determine the championship classification in the production-based category. That means the FIA Endurance Trophy for LMGT3 Teams will go straight to the competitor that accumulates the highest points total from its two entries over the course of the campaign.
Currently, each car within a two-car team scores independently, with championship points attributed by individual race number. The upcoming change places the absolute emphasis on overall team performance, ensuring both machines contribute directly to the final outcome.
The update itself was announced during this week’s Autumn reunion of the FIA World Motor Sport Council. Before this new era takes hold, however, the 2026 LMGT3 Teams’ crown still has to be decided under the current rules at next month’s 6 Hours of Monza season finale, running from 6 to 8 November.
That final showdown in Italy will see TF Sport’s #33 Corvette, The Bend Manthey’s Barcelona-winning #92 Porsche, the #34 Racing Team Turkey by TF Corvette, and the #69 Team WRT BMW battle it out for the current iteration of the title.
