Here is the thing, folks: Yamaha is officially sitting out the 2026 Qatar Grand Prix. That is the stark reality delivered by Yamaha Motor Co., Ltd. following their latest assessment of the situation in the Middle East. Company-wide travel restrictions remain firmly in place, and management has decided there are simply not sufficient grounds to change them. This choice is entirely independent of any measures taken by MotoGP Group and the event organizer, born purely from their own internal review of current information.
Naturally, the reaction from the other side was swift and sharp. MotoGP Group made no secret of their disappointment, releasing a statement highlighting that they do not believe Yamaha's stance reflects the extensive assurances provided to all championship stakeholders. After consulting with the State of Qatar, Lusail International Circuit, independent safety advisers, and running their own ongoing risk assessments, MotoGP insists no information has surfaced to warrant altering the plans for the event.
Thankfully, the rest of the grid is holding firm. MotoGP communicated its position along with the latest data to all Manufacturers and Teams, receiving and welcoming confirmation that everyone else will compete in Qatar as planned.
That said, missing the round is not going to happen without a cost. MotoGP Group made it clear that Yamaha's absence carries contractual implications for their agreements with MotoGP and IRTA. On top of that, there are sporting implications waiting in the wings, which will be managed directly by the FIM in accordance with the Championship regulations.
Despite the drama of this withdrawal, Yamaha insists they remain fully committed to MotoGP as a whole. The factory machine and its crew are simply looking past the Middle East, aiming to return to active competition at the Portuguese Grand Prix.
