According to Motorsport.com, a massive shift is coming to the Formula E grid as Fortescue Zero has purchased the Team Penske operation ahead of the Gen4 era. The Australian outfit will step up to field two Jaguar-powered cars for the campaign scheduled to start in December. That addition pushes the total number of Jaguar-powered machines up to six on the grid, sitting alongside the factory squad and Envision.
This stunning buyout marks the absolute end of the road for Penske in the championship. They had been fixtures since the very inaugural season back in 2014, cycling through various manufacturer partnerships over the years. Most recently, they competed as DS Penske from 2022 to 2026. But once the announcement landed in March revealing that DS was departing at the end of the 2025-26 campaign, the writing was on the wall regarding the team's future.

Now, Fortescue Zero steps in to take over the mantle. They are certainly no strangers to the championship paddock, having spent years developing and supplying crucial technologies while acting as a technical partner for Jaguar. Gus Pichot, Fortescue growth and energy CEO, laid out their ambitions quite clearly.
“For more than a decade Fortescue Zero has been the brains behind some of the groundbreaking technologies powering and transforming electric racing,” Pichot said, adding, “Now we’re going to show the world how we can compete on the track as well. Progressing from the pit lane to the grid is the next chapter in our motorsports story.”
Questions still remain over who will actually pilot these new machines. Maximilian Gunther has already departed DS Penske for Envision, while former team-mate Taylor Barnard waits for his own future to be officially confirmed.
Meanwhile, Jaguar boss Ian James—whose squad just secured the 2025-26 teams’ crown—welcomed the new partnership with open arms. “We are delighted to be working with Fortescue Zero Racing as a new customer team for Formula E’s Gen4 era,” James stated. With six Jaguar-powered entries fighting for wins and podiums when the new rules arrive, the manufacturer's footprint in the electric series is growing stronger than ever.
