Here's the thing, as Motorsport.com Italia reports: Fermín Aldeguer is facing yet another physical hurdle after a brutal and punishing Indonesian Grand Prix weekend at Mandalika. The Gresini Racing rider arrived in Lombok already carrying physical fatigue from a grueling year featuring multiple previous injuries, including winter setbacks and a mid-season issue at Assen.
That said, the weekend on the island turned disastrous after a staggering tally of falls. The #54 machine hit the deck three separate times during Friday's opening practice sessions, though he managed a resilient seventh place in Saturday's Sprint. Unfortunately, Sunday brought a fourth crash in just three days, and this one carried severe consequences.
Going down on just the second lap at turn 16—the penultimate corner—the Spaniard suffered a fracture to the base of the first metacarpal bone in his right hand. The Gresini team confirmed the injury via social media, following a diagnosis delivered by Dr. Ángel Charte, head of the MotoGP medical team. Aldeguer was scheduled to fly home to Spain on Sunday evening to undergo surgery in Barcelona in the coming days.
Neither Gresini nor MotoGP have yet provided details on exact recovery timelines or the full impact of the procedure ahead of the upcoming rounds. The championship now pauses for a single week during the intense Asian tour, before heading into consecutive stops in Australia from October 23 to 25, Malaysia from October 30 to November 1, and Qatar from November 6 to 8.
Meanwhile, Raúl Fernández is also fighting to be fit for the upcoming trip to Phillip Island. The Trackhouse rider revealed that a Saturday crash left him with a broken index finger on his right braking hand as well as a second broken digit, though he pushed through the pain to claim a stunning second place in Sunday's full-length grand prix. Fernández aims to be ready for Australia at all costs, eyeing a return to one of his favorite venues where he claimed his maiden MotoGP victory in 2025.
