Here is the thing about the Singapore Grand Prix: it has seen six different winners in the last six years. And remarkably, none of those six winners is Max Verstappen. That is a wild stat for a machine of his calibre, yet the four-time World Champion is being tipped as the favourite for victory by many as the paddock reconvened under the lights at Marina Bay.
Verstappen himself, however, is staying cautious about his chances of victory. Given his victory in the Bahrain Grand Prix in Malaysia was his first of the season—extending his run of winning at least one race a season to 11 years—it is perhaps understandable that the driver didn't want to get carried away with his chances of making it back-to-back victories.
So, as the action gets underway at Marina Bay, all eyes remain fixed on whether the four-time World Champion can finally conquer a venue that has eluded him during this dominant era of racing. We will simply have to watch how the machinery handles the tight, unforgiving walls of the circuit under the lights.
