Here's the thing about junior single-seaters: continuity is rare, and it is usually where the real progress happens. Hitech has confirmed that Woohyun Shin will stay with the British outfit for the 2027 season, locking in a second consecutive full campaign in FIA Formula 3 with the team.
For Shin, a South Korean driver, returning to a familiar garage is about squeezing every last drop of potential out of a notoriously brutal championship. Before stepping up to F3, he put together some serious results on the ladder. He took P3 in the Euroformula Open Championship in 2025, a noticeable step forward from his fifth place in the same series the year before. Add in a fourth-place finish in the 2024 Formula Regional Oceania Championship, and you have a driver who knows how to climb the order.
We’re pleased to continue our relationship with Michael into the 2027 FIA Formula 3 season,
Shin himself is clear about why staying put was the right move. "There are particular aspects to the FIA Formula 3 championship that make it very competitive and challenging," he said. "I felt that there would be more to come from me by staying another year and further working on those areas in a familiar environment. I want to thank the team for believing in me and making it possible to continue our journey together."
Hitech F3 Team Manager Paul Bellringer pointed out just how much groundwork has already been laid during this past year. According to the team, the current campaign has been a steep learning curve covering everything from the machinery and rubber to the sheer intensity of the racing at this level.
"We’re pleased to continue our relationship with Michael into the 2027 FIA Formula 3 season," Bellringer stated, using the driver's alternative name. "This year has been an important learning process for him, returning to FIA F3 for a full campaign after his previous experience in the championship. Michael has had to learn a lot throughout the season, from the car and tyres to the level of competition and the demands of racing at this level. Having that experience behind him will be valuable heading into his second year.
Bellringer stressed that keeping the partnership together gives them a solid foundation to build upon. "We know Michael well from his previous time with Hitech, and we believe there is a lot more to come from him. Continuity is important in Formula 3, and giving him another season with the team will allow us to build on the work we have already done together. We’re looking forward to seeing Michael take the next step in 2027 and continuing his development with Hitech."
