Here's the thing about a brand-new entry joining a grid: they can either play it safe or they can make a statement. Newcomers to the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship, Opel GSE, have chosen the latter, unveiling their bold new look for an upcoming debut campaign that relies on three striking colour blocks in black, silver, and yellow. It is a design engineered to bridge past iconic Opel Motorsport liveries with a brand-new electric future.
Embracing the slogan 'yellow means go' alongside Opel GSE Yellow and dynamic lightspeed stripes, this machine is guaranteed to turn heads when it finally hits the track later this year. Pierre-Olivier Garcia, Opel Global Brand Design Manager, explained the philosophy behind the aesthetic. "With the final design of the Opel GSE 27FE, we show what Formula E looks like through Opel eyes," Garcia said. "Airflow becomes linework, energy becomes colour and efficiency becomes precision. Our motorsport heritage provides the DNA, German design provides the structure – and Formula E takes it into the future."
Beneath that eye-catching bodywork sits a proper, heavyweight driver lineup. Longtime Formula E driver Mitch Evans steps into the team, making a massive move from Jaguar TCS Racing after spending a decade with them. He is joined by Formula E rookie and former FIA Formula 2 champion Théo Pourchaire.
Evans, for one, is a fan of the new aesthetic. "I think the final design looks fantastic. It builds on our concept and testing livery in a more refined way, while still feeling unmistakably Opel. The additional silver gives it a sharp and sophisticated appearance – and, most importantly, it looks fast," Evans said.
Now, the countdown is genuinely on. Tickets for the opening rounds of the 2026/27 Formula E season, scheduled for December 18 and 19 as the very first test of the GEN4 era, are already on sale.
