That is how you claw your way back into a championship. As Motorsport.com reports, Layne Riggs sliced his deficit down to 17 points in the 2026 title chase after snatching victory in Friday night's NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race at Charlotte Motor Speedway. The No. 34 Front Row Motorsports machine was hooked up all evening, even if Riggs had to work for every single inch against his fiercest rival.
The decisive moment arrived with just a handful of laps remaining. Kaden Honeycutt, controlling the race after a brutal battle, slid up and smacked the wall. That split-second mistake cracked the door wide open, and Riggs drove right on by to take his seventh win of the season and the 12th of his career. "I love that," an ecstatic Riggs said after the finish. "Man, that was a hell of a battle there at the end with me and the 11. That was a lot of fun."
Getting there was an absolute war. Mosack had led the field away from the green flag in a Kyle Busch tribute truck, but Honeycutt quickly muscled past. Meanwhile, Riggs started buried back in 13th place in the No. 34 Front Row Motorsports entry, only to carve his way through the pack, hunt down Honeycutt, and trade paint before taking the Stage 1 win. Pit road frailties for Front Row Motorsports struck during the break, dropping Riggs to fifth, while teammate Smith copped a penalty that shoved him to the rear. Honeycutt bounced back to dominate Stage 2.
The final stage brought clean racing until Riggs tracked Honeycutt down again to lead with 54 laps to go. Chaos soon erupted further back when Crews washed up into Mosack, sending both trucks limping to the pits. Friesen then slammed the wall in the Kyle Busch tribute No. 52, triggering a caution right during green-flag stops and forcing a wave-around scramble for several trucks including C. Smith, Caruth, Enfinger, Mosack, and Ruggiero. Another yellow waved for Kris Wright, setting up the restart from hell.
That restart triggered total carnage when Caruth suffered a sudden tire failure that escalated into a multi-truck pileup. Both Spire trucks belonging to Caruth and Mosack were completely destroyed alongside Honeyma, Ruggiero, and T. Hill, forcing a nearly 30-minute red flag to clear the wreckage in Turns 3 and 4. When the green flag finally dropped with 15 laps left, Honeycutt went into defensive mode against a relentless Riggs. The defense failed when Honeycutt clipped the wall, leaving Christian Eckes to finish second, Honeycutt salvage third, Bayley Currey fourth, and Chandler Smith fifth. Daniel Hemric, Landen Lewis, Andres Perez, Tyler Ankrum, and Justin Haley rounded out the top ten.
