Bristol was remarkably unkind to the title contenders, but as Motorsport.com reports, it delivered a dream come true for Jake Garcia. The ThorSport Racing driver played spoiler in a dramatic Chase opener for the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series, securing his first-ever win in his 94th career start.
Garcia crossed the line 1.3 seconds clear of Bayley Currey, who delivered a career-best result in his first start of the 2026 season. Behind them, Stewart Friesen claimed a strong third, while Justin Haley brought Kaulig RAM their first-ever top five finish in fourth. Gio Ruggiero finished as the top Chase driver in sixth, followed by William Sawalich in seventh, Kaden Honeycutt in eighth, Ty Majeski in ninth, and Grant Enfinger rounding out the top ten.
For the dominant Front Row Motorsports duo of Layne Riggs and Chandler Smith, the night was an unmitigated disaster. Riggs swept both stage wins from pole position, leading all the way up inside the top 20 during the opening stage. But the troubles began when the next round of pit stops arrived. Riggs lost five positions due to a slow stop, and teammate Smith was slapped with a speeding penalty. Then, a worsening loose wheel forced Riggs to pit once more, dropping him off the lead lap.
Chaos erupted soon after when Caden Kvapil dropped oil on the track, leading to a heavy crash for Leitz, a spin for Majeski, and wall contact for Ruggiero, Wright, and Muniz that brought out a lengthy red flag. When racing resumed, Riggs found himself trapped back in 26th and two laps down. The nightmare worsened on a subsequent restart when Riggs suffered heavy damage in an incident, and Smith was forced into an unscheduled pit stop for a tire issue.
Out front, Garcia seized his moment. After holding off Honeycutt and surviving a three-wide battle with Currey and Friesen following a debris caution, Garcia wrestled the lead back from Friesen and set sail. He led 104 of the 250 laps on Thursday to claim a stunning victory.
Despite the 32nd-place finish marking his worst result of the entire year, Riggs still leads the championship standings. However, his advantage has evaporated, sitting just three points ahead of Honeycutt, with Smith now 30 points further back.
