Carson 'Hurricane' Hocevar has completely dominated the conversation during the 2026 NASCAR Cup season, making headlines almost every single week behind the wheel of the No. 77 Chevrolet. As Motorsport.com reports, while some of those moments included a massive Talladega win, strong merchandise sales, a spot on the Time 100 list for 'Most Influential People in Sports', and a trip to the Met Gala, the year has also been defined by an overwhelming wave of negativity. Now, his actions at Martinsville have led to a suspension by Spire Motorsports, meaning he will end the season on the sidelines after veteran drivers spent the entire year questioning if he cared more about fame than racing results.
That chaos kicked off in a major way at Bristol when Hocevar battled Ryan Blaney for second place. After a failed block by the Penske driver, Hocevar sent him crashing into the wall while taking a third-place finish. Things boiled over on pit road when Blaney approached and grabbed Hocevar, who immediately threw two haymakers. Hocevar later claimed in a press scrum that he had never hit anyone before that Saturday night and suggested NASCAR would lose ticket sales if they issued fines, while Blaney ultimately regretted his part in the fight and no penalties were handed out.
I just think that's Martinsville, and I think we were just having fun.
Darlington and Atlanta added even more wreckage to the resume. During the opening round of the Chase at Darlington, Hocevar made contact with Brad Keselowski, sliding him into the wall before hitting him a second time to send him spinning completely out. Hocevar was dismissive and sarcastic afterward, asking if it made good TV and offering a 6% discount on his merch since Keselowski drives the No. 6. Earlier in the year at Atlanta, after dealing with an early tire issue and a blown side window, Hocevar spun Joey Logano, tried to force his way up the middle on a restart to crash Christopher Bell into the wall for a fourth-place finish, and walled Bubba Wallace on the white flag lap. He later admitted he didn't mean to turn Joey and joked he owed him a gift card, while explaining his move on Bell was to break up the Toyotas.
The friction extended to part-time drivers and rivals alike. Corey Heim, who has a history with Hocevar stretching back to the 2023 NASCAR Truck title finale, spun Hocevar out before winning in San Diego. Later at the summer Brickyard 400 where Hocevar started from pole, he grew frustrated being trapped behind Heim during a pit stop cycle; when Heim finally pitted, Hocevar aggressively turned down the track towards his car and flipped him off, prompting Heim to note to the media that people love talking about a guy who finished ninth. Meanwhile, Zane Smith blasted Hocevar as a 'coward' on a July podcast, and after getting wrecked by Smith at Chicagoland, Hocevar acted confused. At Phoenix later in the year, Hocevar slid up into Smith after getting bumped by Ross Chastain, causing Smith to aggressively ram Hocevar after the checkered flag and earn a $50,000 fine.

Martinsville brought even more bizarre scenes in the penultimate round when Hocevar suffered a self-spin during a green-flag pit stop cycle, leaving several drivers suspicious. Soon after, despite not being on the same lap, Hocevar aggressively brake-checked Austin Cindric three or four times, destroying the nose of Cindric's car and ending his race. When asked about it, Hocevar claimed he got lost for a second and stated, "I just think that's Martinsville, and I think we were just having fun." Even the pace laps weren't safe, as Hocevar throttled up ahead of the pace car on wet-weather tires and spun out at the exit of Turn 4 during a rainy New Hampshire race, leading Joey Logano to call him an idiot while Kyle Larson claimed it was 1000% done just to get on TV.
Finally, Hocevar found himself at the center of multiple restart pileups and a massive Talladega wreck. At Michigan, he tagged John Hunter Nemechek to trigger a pileup, drawing a brutal radio comment from Richard Childress about having a small brain, though Hocevar later hashed things out with Bubba Wallace on the pit wall. At Kansas, another restart move trying to force his way up the middle as Ty Gibbs came down destroyed several more cars. Most recently at Talladega, Hocevar got a massive run on Logano in the closing laps and bumped him in the middle of the tri-oval, sending Logano's car flying upside down within seconds in a frightening crash that collected 15 cars in total.
