Here is the thing about the junior single-seater ladder: it keeps growing its reach without losing its core mission. The FIA Formula 2 Championship and FIA Formula 3 Championship have officially locked in their schedules for the 2027 campaign, and there are some fascinating new stops on the horizon for both categories.
Both championships will continue running as direct support series to Formula 1 throughout the year. Formula 2 is slated for 14 rounds, while Formula 3 will feature at 10 rounds alongside the grand prix circus. For F2, the schedule brings a return to Montreal after its initial appearance in 2026, alongside brand new visits to Mexico City and Istanbul, the latter marking the first time the category races at the Turkish venue in the FIA F2 era.
Meanwhile, Formula 3 is expanding its own horizons with debut visits to Jeddah and Montreal, while saving its season finale for a brand new venue in Istanbul. Both categories will kick off their respective seasons in March in Bahrain and Jeddah, before heading out to Melbourne in April and Montreal in May.
From there, the rhythm shifts to Europe. Both F2 and F3 hit the track in June around Monaco, followed immediately by back-to-back weekends at Silverstone and Spielberg. After the summer break, the racing resumes at Monza before a trip to Madrid.
As the autumn sets in, the schedules diverge slightly. F2 takes on Azerbaijan as the sole supporting championship in September before both series converge in Istanbul for the final F3 round of the year. F2 then wraps up its own globe-trotting campaign with a late-October date in Mexico, followed by the final two rounds in Qatar and Abu Dhabi.
Formula 1 President and CEO Stefano Domenicali emphasized the importance of the pathway, stating: “The 2027 FIA Formula 2 calendar will deliver another exciting season of racing across 14 rounds at some of the most iconic and challenging venues in world motorsport, including the addition of Istanbul and Mexico City.”
Addressing the logistical side of this massive geographical expansion, FIA Formula 2 CEO Bruno Michel noted: “I’m very excited to add three new venues in a financially sustainable way, with the return of Montreal following its surprise addition in 2026 and the first appearance of Istanbul and Mexico City. We will be covering freight costs so that the territorial expansion of the calendar does not financially impact our teams.”
