Here is the thing, watching a race weekend get derailed by illness is always brutal. Honda HRC Castrol have announced that Luca Marini will miss the Red Bull Grand Prix of Australia as he continues to suffer from a lack of power due to the virus he has been suffering from since before the weekend.
Dr Angel Charte, MotoGP Medical Director, provided the medical reality behind the absence: “For the past week, Luca Marini has been suffering from a viral condition and a high fever for three to four days. For the last 48 to 72 hours, he has been suffering from muscle weakness caused by the virus, affecting both his upper and lower body. During the last examination, conducted on Saturday morning, he presented with the same symptoms and was declared unfit. His condition will be assessed again in Malaysia.”
Thankfully, the plan for a comeback is already in motion. His target is to return next weekend at the Petronas Grand Prix of Malaysia, ahead of which he will undergo another medical check on Thursday. We will just have to wait and see if the machine and rider are ready to fight once more.
