As Crash.net reports, nine-year-old Jack Wolff—son of Mercedes Formula 1 boss Toto Wolff—suffered a terrifying crash during the IAME Warrior Final karting competition, yet somehow escaped major injury. Racing in the X30 Mini class at the Leopard Circuit Viterbo in Italy, the young driver found himself fighting at the front of the field when disaster struck on the final lap.
Having broken slightly clear of the chasing pack alongside one other competitor, Wolff made contact on one of the circuit’s straights. The resulting spin left him stranded in the path of the oncoming karts, with a trailing machine collecting him and riding over his back to strike his shoulder. It is an absolute nightmare scenario for any parent watching from afar.
Thankfully, the young driver was well enough after the heavy impact to extract himself from the machine under his own power, and reports indicate he is already eager to get back behind the wheel. This campaign has already seen the nine-year-old taste success in the IAME Series Italy, where he captured his first driver's title in the under 10s X30 category.
While the accident unfolded in Italy, both of his parents were thousands of miles away in the United States for the Formula 1 weekend at the Circuit of the Americas. Toto Wolff is present in his usual role as CEO of the Mercedes team, while Susie Wolff is in Texas managing the F1 Academy series.
Back on the grand prix circuit, the Mercedes squad could actually secure the 2026 F1 drivers’ title this very weekend with Andrea Kimi Antonelli, who holds a 102-point advantage over teammate George Russell with five rounds remaining following the US Grand Prix. Opening practice at the venue saw Russell edge out his stablemate by claiming fourth place while Antonelli settled for fifth, though both silver machines sat over 0.3 seconds adrift of Charles Leclerc's pace-setting Ferrari, which arrived at the track featuring a fresh package of updates.
