Pedro Acosta is back on top of the world. In an absolute nail-biter of a dry-wet Saturday showdown at the Petronas Grand Prix of Malaysia, the Red Bull KTM Factory Racing rider got his elbows out right at the sharp end, fending off a three-strong pack to take the spoils with half a second in hand.
Things kicked off with a frantic drag race into Turn 1, where Alex Marquez managed to muscle his BK8 Gresini Racing MotoGP machine into an early lead with some breathing space. Behind him, Ai Ogura made a decisive move stick on Marc Marquez through Turns 2 and 3, shoving the Ducati Lenovo Team rider down to third. Before the opening lap even closed out, front-row starter Acosta barged his way past the #93 as well, while championship leader Marc Marquez's key rival, Marco Bezzecchi of Aprilia Racing, tailed right behind.
Then the weather decided to spice things up. As the field looped around the final sector on Lap 2, the white flag flew to signal spots of rain and grant riders permission to swap to wet-setup machines. Jack Miller sprinted into the Prima Pramac Yamaha MotoGP Team box to do just that, only to find his bike completely unprepped. Far worse fortune struck leader Alex Marquez, who suddenly slid out at Turn 14 while holding a clear advantage. The rider was perfectly okay, but his bike cartwheeled across the gravel to end his Sprint right there.
With Alex Marquez out, Ogura inherited the lead with Acosta breathing down his neck and Marc Marquez lurking directly behind. As the rain intensified around Turns 4, 5, and 6 while the rest of the circuit stayed dry, a tactical gamble emerged. Joan Mir of Honda HRC Castrol, Iker Lecuona for BK8 Gresini Racing MotoGP, and Franco Morbidelli representing Pertamina Enduro VR46 Racing Team rolled the dice to pit at the end of Lap 4. Meanwhile, the lead trio pressed on, with Ogura trading dry-patch gains for damp-patch losses against Acosta and a watching Marc Marquez.

With four laps remaining, the battle exploded. Acosta struck for the lead, and though Ogura fired back, the #37 slammed the door shut before Marc Marquez sliced past Ogura for second. That chaotic shuffle dragged Bezzecchi back into the fight. Ogura lunged down the inside at Turn 4, but Marc Marquez answered right back with a clean, brutal pass at Turn 5 to secure second. Bezzecchi capitalized immediately, wrestling third away from the SuperFile Trackhouse MotoGP machine at Turn 9.
Ultimately, the gamble on wet tyres did not pay off as the conditions held stable enough. Acosta crossed the finish line to claim his second Tissot Sprint victory, finishing just over half a second clear of his pursuers. Marc Marquez took second to stretch his championship lead to 19 points over the absent Jorge Martin of Aprilia Racing, while Bezzecchi's third-place finish pushes his deficit to 52 points.
Ogura was left to settle for a brilliant fourth after fighting tooth and nail. Further back, Fabio Di Giannantonio secured fifth for Pertamina Enduro VR46 Racing Team, with Francesco Bagnaia of Ducati Lenovo Team holding off a hard-charging Brad Binder from Red Bull KTM Factory Racing. Diogo Moreira of Pro Honda LCR grabbed the final point by just a tenth over Red Bull KTM Tech3 rider Enea Bastianini.
