Here is the thing about riders like Jorge Martin: they are entirely built from something else. Just six days after fracturing a bone in his wrist during the Tissot Sprint in Australia, the #89 has been officially declared fit to race at the Petronas Grand Prix of Malaysia.
The medical check on Thursday brought the initial green light for the Aprilia Racing rider, allowing him straight out onto the track for Friday morning's FP1 session pending a further medical review. That initial run saw the 2024 Champion complete 12 laps, finishing within 2 seconds off the fastest lap of the session, which was set by Marc Marquez of the Ducati Lenovo Team.
Following that session, the confirmation came down: Martin was fully passed fit for the Malaysian GP and will continue competing for the rest of the weekend.
It is a massive return to action for a rider desperately trying to hold onto his title contention. Coming into the weekend, Martin sits just 10 points off the championship lead currently held by none other than Marc Marquez. That gap leaves zero room for error, and seeing the Aprilia Racing machine back on track with the #89 at the controls sets up an incredible fight for the rest of the weekend.
