Here is the thing about racing in Turismo Carretera: loyalty to a machine only lasts as long as the stopwatch says it does. For Andy Jakos, that realization has brought him to the edge of a massive change for 2027. Speaking on the ACTC streaming broadcast on YouTube during the category's visit to Rosario, the driver from Ramos Mejía opened up about a grueling 2026 campaign that has forced him and his squad to look ahead.
His best result so far this season is a lonely sixth place during the second round in Viedma. Because of struggles like that, the Toyota Camry model that has been his weapon of choice since 2022 is likely about to be left behind. "We are working, looking at different possibilities for next year. Let's hope everything we are working on happens, but these would be the last races," Jakos confessed.
Looking back, the numbers tell the story of a relationship that peaked early. After climbing the official ACTC ladder to reach Turismo Carretera in 2021, Andrés managed two podium finishes with Toyota. Both of those runner-up results came at San Juan. Since then, his high-water mark has been a fifth place in San Luis back in 2024.
Now, the plan for 2027 is a complete brand overhaul. "We would like to make two Mercedes Benz for next year. Otherwise the possibility of building a Torino with this structure," Andy explained. The motivation behind the shift is blunt and honest. "Because we didn't have a good run through Toyota. As a team yes, but for two years we see that we cannot get out, or we cannot get back to being ahead as we were at some point. I don't know if the brand is further behind or if it is costing us more than we would think is normal."
