That said, let's take a proper look back at the last time Turismo Carretera raced at the autódromo de Río Cuarto. It happened on Sunday, June 3, 2012. For that specific commitment, exactly 48 protagonists had registered their entry, and when the dust settled, the victory went to Juan Bautista De Benedictis.
Now, while this championship saw more than 50 drivers sign up for every single event, only 12 of those who ran that day down in the south of the Córdoba province are still connected to the grid's current landscape in a specific way. The full dozen present that weekend featured Juan Bautista De Benedictis, Christian Ledesma, Jonatan Castellano, Juan Pablo Gianini, Mariano Werner, Juan Martín Trucco, Diego De Carlo, Josito Di Palma, Matías Rossi, Emiliano Spataro, Norberto Fontana, and Agustín Canapino.
Unfortunately, not everyone had a clean run. Canapino suffered a cruel bit of bad luck when his engine broke during his heat. He failed to complete the heat, and as a result, he didn't start the final.
Despite that heartbreak back then, seven of those 12 drivers now find themselves competing inside the prestigious Copa de Oro de Turismo Carretera. That exclusive group consists of Canapino, Ledesma, Castellano, Gianini, Werner, Di Palma, and Rossi.
