Talk about a session to remember. Lewis Hamilton put together a brilliant final lap in Q3 to grab pole position for the Mexico City Grand Prix, marking his first P1 start in a Grand Prix for Ferrari and making him the oldest man to be on pole since Mario Andretti in 1982. The margins were razor-thin at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez, leaving Ferrari and their rivals fighting for every inch of tarmac.
Mercedes found themselves wrestling with tyre warm-up issues early on, but George Russell conjured up a magnificent final run without a preparation lap to secure second on the grid. He finished just 0.009s off pole. Kimi Antonelli struggled more with getting his tyres into the working window during Q3 and wound up fifth, though he starts fourth thanks to a penalty. Toto Wolff and Trackside Engineering Director Andrew Shovlin noted the fine margins, with the gap between Hamilton and Russell on track being no more than 50 centimetres.
Charles Leclerc looked like he had the pace all weekend for Ferrari, but a scrappy final run in Q3 and trouble finding the tyre window left him in third. Over at Red Bull, Max Verstappen turned his weekend around to get into the mix, though a lock-up in the stadium section on his final run—impacted by dirty air—halted his charge to fourth. Isack Hadjar battled brake feel issues and lock-ups, particularly into T13, but dragged his machine to seventh on the grid despite aborting his first Q3 run.

McLaren experienced a tougher afternoon after showing strong pace earlier. Oscar Piastri suffered an exit in Q2 for the first time this season after starting on used tyres and failing to nail his final attempt. Lando Norris made it through to Q3 comfortably enough, but could not replicate the working window he found when topping Q2, leaving him sixth on the grid.
With a notoriously long run down to Turn 1, slipstreams, and brutal demands on brake and power unit temperatures, Sunday's race is set to be an absolute thriller. Strategy, clean starts, and managing dirty air will decide who converts Saturday's chaos into silverware.
