As Motorsport.com reports, Carson Kvapil delivered a masterclass at Martinsville on Saturday, securing a massive victory that keeps his championship hopes alive while his JR Motorsports teammate Justin Allgaier grabbed the series points lead with a stellar second-place finish.
Behind the dominant JRM 1-2 punch, Corey Day brought his machine home in third, Brandon Jones took fourth, and Sam Mayer rounded out the top five. The rest of the top ten saw Sheldon Creed, Sammy Smith, William Sawalich, Brent Crews, and Taylor Gray filling out the order after a race that demanded absolute survival.
"I knew we had a really fast Bass Pro Shop Chevrolet," Kvapil said. The pole-sitter detailed a chaotic path to victory lane that involved getting shuffled back through the pack before a gutsy strategy call by crew chief Rodney Childers to come in early and cycle onto older tires later paid off. Johnny Morris, owner of Bass Pro Shops, was on hand to witness the triumph at a venue where the driver feels right at home.
Meanwhile, the title fight was completely upended. Jesse Love entered the weekend controlling the championship standings, but a brutal brake failure sent him slamming into the wall and tumbling down to a 30th-place finish. Love now heads into the finale 22 points behind Allgaier. Day sits 23 points back, Kvapil is 31 points back, and Creed rounds out the contenders at 42 points back.
The race itself was an absolute war of attrition featuring numerous cautions and restarts. Stage 1 saw early drama when Austin Hill pitted under green with a flat tire, followed swiftly by a multi-car pileup triggered when Smith tangled with Scott and collected Ellis, Day, and Crews. Allgaier eventually wrestled control away after Creed made a bold three-wide bid for the lead, taking the Stage 1 win ahead of Creed, Jones, Kvapil, Love, J. Burton, Retzlaff, Alfredo, Mayer, and Sawalich.
Stage 2 brought another twist as drivers who pitted during earlier cautions cycled to the front, leaving Mayer and Sawalich leading the restart. As Allgaier carved his way back through traffic, a caution for Harrison and Jeb Burton's cousin-on-cousin spin sparked a split strategy. Day stayed out while Mayer pitted, and Love got boxed into his stall. Alfredo seized the lead on the restart, and while desperately trying to make up ground after his messy stop, Love picked up a tire rub. Alfredo took the Stage 2 win, followed by Allgaier, Crews, Day, S. Smith, Sawalich, Tay. Gray, Creed, Poole, and Caruth.
Stage 3 brought a red flag for a lengthy cleanup after Maggio and Smithley collided and collected Emerling, while Love battled water line issues. Day took over the lead on a subsequent restart before another flurry of yellows for Dye and Clements slowed the pace. When the racing finally stabilized, Kvapil held firm at the front. Allgaier clawed his way up to second, but the final hammer dropped when Love lost his brakes entirely and drilled the wall. Kvapil cruised through the chaos to take the checkered flag 0.434s ahead of his teammate, securing his third win of the 2026 season.
