The dawn of the Gen4 era is bringing a massive change to Formula E's footwear. As Motorsport.com Italia reports, Bridgestone is stepping in as the new tyre supplier, and the paddock is already buzzing with approval after early tests. The upcoming rubber will be built using 65 percent recycled and renewable materials, marking a significant philosophical and technical shift for the championship.
During the Gen3 era, complaints about overly hard tyres were a constant fixture in the paddock. Drivers frequently felt the previous compound blocked them from fully unlocking the 350 kW power available in Attack Mode. Even the revised Gen3 Evo—which brought in permanent all-wheel-drive phases—only tweaked the concept rather than revolutionizing it. But from the moment Bridgestone took over the tender and hit the track with its new creations, drivers immediately noticed a massive step forward.

That leap in performance is arriving just in time, because the Gen4 machines are going to demand absolute beasts of tyres. Qualifying power is skyrocketing nearly twofold, jumping from the previous 350 kW all the way to 600 kW. Handling that kind of brutality requires serious engineering, especially since the championship is sticking with treaded tyres capable of managing everything from dry tarmac to light rain. Furthermore, a brand new extreme wet tyre dubbed "Typhoon" is entering the fray, having previously made an unscheduled debut during a fierce storm at Paul Ricard.
The environmental footprint matches the sheer ambition of the engineering. The Gen4 Bridgestone range relies on carbon black harvested from the pyrolysis oil of end-of-life tyres, silica sourced from rice husks, and natural rubber certified by the Global Platform for Sustainable Natural Rubber. Manufacturing runs entirely on 100 percent renewable energy for heat and electricity, while transport leans on low-carbon logistics developed alongside DHL.
Formula E CEO Jeff Dodds made it clear just how much confidence the series has in its new partner for the 2026/27 campaign. "Bridgestone is the ideal partner to accompany us in this new and exciting era," Dodds stated, praising the combination of motorsport heritage and cutting-edge sustainability. Beyond supplying the entire grid, the Japanese manufacturer is also stepping up as the Official Race Title Sponsor for four major rounds during the 2026/27 season: Mexico City, Berlin, Shanghai, and the Tokyo season finale.
