Citroen is stepping into the upcoming technical cycle of Formula E with a machine that keeps its iconic colors while stripping away every ounce of excess weight possible, as Motorsport.com Italia reports. The French manufacturer's new Gen4 challenger arrives following an apprenticeship season in the all-electric championship that already yielded a race victory, setting the stage for this next chapter.
Familiar faces remain inside the garage, with the driver line-up featuring two-time world champion Jean-Eric Vergne alongside Nick Cassidy. Visually, the livery honors last season's blue, white, and red palette, featuring Citroen's distinctive chevrons shaped directly into the more sculpted lines of the Gen4 chassis by the Citroen Design team responsible for the brand's production vehicles.
I'm in Formula E for a long time and I've seen the championship from different perspectives, so arriving in Citroen at the beginning of the GEN4 era represents the right challenge at the right time.
Every gram matters with the new regulations, as the Gen4 cars bring increased weight due to a larger battery and performance demands on more traditional circuits. To fight this, the team reduced the weight of the wrap itself—avoiding superfluous layers and using the parametric design of the chevrons to handle color transitions without unnecessary material.
Leadership changes accompany the new hardware. Beth Paretta, who served as Managing Director during the team's debut year, has now been named Team Principal. Her background includes serving as Vice President of Sporting for Formula E alongside senior roles within Volkswagen Group, Aston Martin, and Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, where she made history as the first woman to lead both a high-performance brand and a global motorsport portfolio. This appointment brings continuity to the squad following the tragic passing of former Team Principal Cyril Blais in July.
Supporting this new direction, Frederic Espinos joins Citroen as Sporting Director and deputy Team Principal. Espinos brings extensive experience from the championship's earliest days, having worked within the FIA, served as Formula E's Sporting Director, and later taken on the deputy Team Principal role at ABT when the squad returned to the series in 2022.
"What excites me most about this new role is the opportunity to join a project that has a reale possibility to win," Espinos stated. "I'm in Formula E for a long time and I've seen the championship from different perspectives, so arriving in Citroen at the beginning of the GEN4 era represents the right challenge at the right time."
