Here is the thing about the silly season: it never truly sleeps. According to Speedcafe, whispers are circulating that a prominent Supercars star is being eyed for an open seat in the NASCAR Cup Series, specifically linked to the #6 entry for upcoming opportunities. That machine sits at a fascinating crossroads for the team as structural shifts loom on the horizon.
To understand the puzzle, you have to look at how the garage is currently structured. RFK Racing operates as a three-car outfit utilizing two in-house charters alongside a third leased from Rick Ware Racing. That specific leased charter is scheduled to move over to Legacy Motor Club for Riley Herbst in 2027. While RFK remains optimistic about securing a third charter outright, plans are already in motion to run that third entry as a full-time, non-chartered machine if negotiations fall short.
Expectations point to the team's charters being deployed for the #17 of Chris Buescher and the #60 of Ryan Preece. That leaves the #6 completely unchartered and open, creating a fascinating vacancy. Rumours have swum around this specific car, amplified recently when Bubba Wallace’s spotter Freddie Kraft dropped hints on his Door Bumper Clear podcast.
“Interestingly enough, I have been hearing an Australian driver’s name mentioned a heck of a lot around that #6 car for next year,” Kraft stated on the podcast, while clarifying it is not Shane van Gisbergen. “I think he’s from Australia. He runs in Australian Supercars. But I’ve heard that name mentioned a little bit, so it will be interesting to see how that plays out.”

That veiled hint has reignited talk surrounding Feeney, who is viewed as the front-runner to tackle selected road course outings with the squad. The driver previously spent time observing the setup during a visit to the Sonoma road course earlier this year, keeping an eye on 2027 prospects. His stated ideal program for that year involves balancing a full-time Supercars campaign with a mixture of NASCAR outings and international GT events.
Any definitive moves, however, will have to remain on pause. Interested drivers from the Supercars paddock must wait before locking in deals, as the 2027 calendar still awaits its official release. When that schedule does drop, it will feature stops at Circuit of the Americas on March 7, Sonoma on July 11, the San Diego street circuit on August 1, and Watkins Glen on September 19.
